Vibe: Hip High Life
The Standard, High Line // New York, U.S.A.
A concrete and glass hipster haven, this high-rise hotel towers over the High Line (a (linear park constructed on an elevated section of disused railroad) and has heavenly views over the Hudson. If you can bear to leave your luxe minimalist room with deep bath – you can shop the West Village or enjoy a sunset cocktail at the legendary The Top of The Standard. TIP: The views get better above level 8, so ask for a higher floor when booking in.
Vibe: Tarzan & Jane
Nihiwatu // Indonesia
For an unbeatable Blue Lagoon-esque lost-in-paradise feeling, the Marangga villas at Nihiwatu are where you want to be. Each villa has a Cliffside Bale with a daybed – you can sleep under the stars or enjoy a little afternoon delight with your love. Marranga Villas are v. secluded – perfect for lovers and honeymooners. Ssssshhh.
Propeller Island City Lodge // Berlin, Germany
This is less like a hotel, more like living inside an art installation. It will tap into your sense of adventure and is an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime experience. German artist Lars Stroschen, created all the objects and suites in the hotel and each room is unique. There’s The Blue Room, Grandma’s Room, The Mirrors and our pick, The Two Lions. Like your own Red Room – it’s all wood and rouge with a wooden bath and two cages resting on 1.5 metre high stilts. The cages can be seen by neighbouring guests – yep, really! There’s a curtain if you’re feeling shy.
Vibe: Italian Stallion
Monteverdi // Tuscany, Italy
Nestled in a medieval village with cobbled streets and hummingbird moths zinging in and out of lavender and verbena bushes – this is a place for classy pleasures – more romance less raunch we thinks. The rooms are like serene, modern attics – think cream Italian linens, breezy white curtains and rustic wooden ceilings. Our pick is the Val d’Orcia Suite with a round charcoal-coloured bath, flagstone floors and Carrara marble everywhere.
Vibe: Sex in the city
QT Hotel // Sydney, Australia
Q seems to be for quirky in this sexy establishment in the heart of Sydney CBD. Step into the lift and you’ll have a strange feeling you’re being watched. You kind of are. Sensors know how many people are in the lift and the music changes accordingly. Think ‘All By Myself’ if you’re solo and Salt-N-Pepa if you’re with a couple of others. #awks if you don’t know them yet. Once you’re out of the lift you’ll notice a gothic vintage vibe everywhere and staff dressed like 1940s cigarette girls with bobbed crimson wigs. My room is just as saucy with a black tiled bathroom, black bathrobe, a red sheepskin draped on the bed plus a mini bar stocked with lube, condoms and a blindfold. Just one? Get a late checkout.
